Cliff Jumping at The Black Rocks

This week, I embarked on an escapade to the northern reaches of the Mitten State. I’m no stranger to the charms of our beloved state, but I’ll admit, the Upper Peninsula has remained mostly uncharted territory for me. This time, we were about to rock out in a way that would leave our hearts pounding and spirits soaring, all thanks to the spellbinding allure of Marquette’s best-kept secret: Black Rocks Beach.

Nestled within the enchanting confines of Presque Isle Park, located in Marquette County, Black Rocks Beach is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Forget your classic sandy shores; this is a beach with a bold personality, boasting pebbly and rocky terrain that adds a dash of wild beauty to the pristine shoreline of Lake Superior. But what truly sets it apart? Brace yourselves, it’s time to dive into the extraordinary world of cliff jumping!

Imagine yourself standing at the edge of the world, perched atop dark, rugged cliffs that rise 20 to 30 feet above the deep blue waters of Lake Superior. That’s the thrilling stage Black Rocks Beach sets for its daring visitors. I couldn’t resist the siren call of adventure. I took the plunge, quite literally, and checked off a major bucket list item! The sensation of soaring through the air, the initial shock of the frigid water, and the triumphant resurface – it’s was thrilling!  I even found myself going back for round two.
